How To Make Blazing Trail Mix

Looking for a taste treat while on the trail during your next backpacking, hiking, or camping trip?  Try this. You do not need to be a gourmet guru to gauge how delicious and flavorful this dish is!

What You’ll NeedBlazing Trail Mix

2 cups      miniature wheat or Shredded bran squares

1 cup        unsalted thin pretzel sticks broken into pieces

1/2 cup     cooked lentils

1/2 cup     quick-cooking rolled oats

1/2 cup     raisins

1/2 cup     dried apples chopped

1/4 cup     honey

2 teaspoons     curry powder

1/2 teaspoon    ground coriander

1/4 teaspoon    ground cumin

1/4 teaspoon    paprika

1/8 teaspoon    ground red pepper

Optional ingredients

Dried fruit bits

Walnuts, pecan nuts, peanuts, cashew nuts or almonds

Coconut

Sunflower nuts

Step 1

In a 13x9-inch baking pan, combine the wheat or bran squares, pretzels, lentils, oats, raisins, and apples

Step 2

In a small bowl, stir together the honey; curry powder, coriander, cumin, paprika and pepper

Step 3

Drizzle the honey mixture over the cereal mixture and toss until evenly coated.

Step 4

Bake at 350° for 15 to 20 minutes or until crisp, stirring occasionally.

  • Makes 8 cups or 16 serves
