Lizzie asks…

Whats the best time of the year to visit Yosemite park for camping?

Me and some friends want to go camping in Yosemite this summer some time, anyone have any idea when would be the best time, were thinking for like 3 days, 4 at the very most.

Sonny answers:

From April through September, reservations are essential and even the first-come, first-served campgrounds often fill by noon from May through September.

Any advice on camping in Yosemite in the winter?

I'm camping in Yosemite in a couple of weeks. Does anyone know how crowded it is? I know it is very difficult to find a tent camping site in the summer, but I am hoping this will not be the case in February. If you know about winter crowds there, let me know.

Sonny answers:

only 1/2 the campsites are available on a first come basis weather permitting and you have to have reservations in 6 months in advance for the rest, on that note good luck. Snow is everywhere and tioga pass is closed till march at the earliest weather permitting. Outside the park at lower elevations you may find camping sites available.

•Yosemite Valley: Upper Pines Campground is open; on a first-come, first-served basis. North and Lower Pines Campgrounds are closed for the season. Camp 4 is open on a first-come, first-served basis.

•Outside Yosemite Valley:
Hodgdon Meadow and Wawona Campgrounds are open on a first-come, first-served basis. Crane Flat, Tamarack Flat, Porcupine Flat, Tuolumne Meadows, White Wolf, Yosemite Creek, and Bridalveil Creek Campgrounds are closed for the season.

Winter crowds are less of course but that still matches it's availability.

Again good luck

Are there any good guided camping trips through Yosemite National Park?

My room mate and I want to do a week long trip out to Yosemite National Park. We want to do a guided camping trip for part of it that includes hiking, site seeing, and camping (tents). Does anyone have any recommendations about a good site that will help us plan our trip or provide a guided trip?

William asks…

How do you do tent camping in Yosemite without getting eaten by bears?

Where do you go to exactly? Do you have make reservations even for tent camping?

Sonny answers:

It's suggested that you make reservations to Yosemite well in advance. Now that Labor Day is near, once the holiday has passed, it may be easier to rent a cabin tent or even stay at the Hotel. If you follow the directions left by the rangers to lock your provsions in the bear proof containers and not in your camp or car, you should be bear safe. Here is a link for more info.
